Target Audience: The intended audience for this activity is gastroenterologists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the immunoregulatory pathways of clinical importance for IBD therapy.
- Compare the classification criteria for different forms of IBD to be better able to classify disease severity.
- Explain the mechanisms of action of current and emerging pharmacotherapies for the treatment of patients with IBD.
- Evaluate current safety and efficacy data pertaining to the use of various treatments for IBD to assist in clinical decision making.
- Assess the risks and benefits of top-down versus step-up prescribing strategies in the treatment of patients with IBD.
- Summarize how to interpret evidence-based literature and clinical trial data and how to effectively use this information in clinical practice.
- Outline methods to engage patients in their overall care to improve adherence and compliance to prescribed therapeutic regimens.
