Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), of which Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the 2 main subtypes, is a chronic relapsing condition characterized by an overly active immune response to the gut enteric flora, resulting in bowel inflammation and ulceration. Despite the increasing prevalence of the disease, clinicians may not have adequate information regarding the diagnosis, classification, and management of patients with IBD. In this CME activity, expert clinicians discuss the latest updates in diagnosing and managing patients with IBD as well as newer pharmacotherapies that may offer additional benefits to their patients.
