Glaucoma is a major cause of vision loss in the United States. Prevalence of glaucoma continues to increase due to the aging population and is estimated to affect 3.3 million individuals by 2020. Treatment is directed toward reducing and managing intraocular pressure (IOP), which can be achieved by targeting the production or outflow of aqueous humor. As our understanding of these mechanisms continues to advance, newer methods for the management of IOP are being developed that avoid conjunctival dissection. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) offers an alternative to trabeculectomy in those patients who would benefit from additional medication-induced IOP reduction. In this webinar, experts in the field will review and discuss the mechanisms of aqueous humor outflow and their significance in IOP regulation, as well as innovations in MIGS for glaucoma therapy, and will evaluate the safety profiles of MIGS compared with conventional surgery.
