The incidence of obesity has increased dramatically over the past 20 years and is considered to be an epidemic in the United States. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity now affects more than one-third (39.8%) of adults in the United States. It is also a risk factor for some of the leading causes of preventable death, including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and certain cancers. Despite the availability of clinical practice guidelines and effective therapies, they are not utilized by many health care providers. This CME series, Obesity Forum® 2018, aims to provide health care professionals with guidance on the appropriate use of therapies and strategies for delivering individualized care to patients with overweight or obesity via a multidisciplinary team. It will incorporate didactic presentations and the patient perspective.
