Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a deterioration or breakdown of the eye's macula. At present, pharmacotherapy is available only for late neovascular AMD. The prospect of effective therapies in the near future, together with an increasing incidence of AMD in an aging population, has led to increased interest in early, accurate diagnosis and classification of AMD, as well as medications to effectively treat it. This educational program will address imaging techniques and technology, evidence for optimizing treatment regimens and visual aids, as well as the potential clinical utility of emerging treatments for advanced dry age-related macular degeneration and geographic atrophy.
