Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is a leading cause of blindness in the United States, is an ocular condition for which nutritional risk factors have been evaluated extensively in both observational and interventional studies. Because of the potential importance of oxidative damage due to AMD, investigations have generated interest in micronutrients with antioxidant capabilities. In this continuing medical education activity, expert faculty will examine the risk factors associated with the development of AMD as well as assess the latest clinical evidence and advances regarding nutritional supplementation in the management of patients with AMD.
