A leading cause of blindness in the United States, diabetic retinopathy is especially challenging because it is generally asymptomatic, even as the vision-threatening disease process progresses. Screening to identify patients early is critical to afford patients the best visual outcomes. Anti-VEGF agents and corticosteroids have been established as effective treatment options to prevent new blood vessel formation, and clinicians and researchers now have new insights into the best approaches to using these agents as monotherapy and in combination. In this activity, a leading clinician discusses the state of the science and shares management strategies.
