Recent approvals have expanded clinicians’ options for the management of diabetic macular edema, making a thorough understanding of their efficacy and safety profiles critical in the management of patients. The FDA is also considering expanding the indications for some agents to include proliferative diabetic retinopathy based on subanalyses of clinical trials. If found to be a viable treatment option, these would enable clinicians to address the disease process earlier, and could result in better visual outcomes for patients. Concurrent with these developments in pharmacology, technology for screening and monitoring patients with retinal disease is also improving rapidly, offering more detailed and wider views of the macula. In this activity, leading clinicians will discuss these developments and the potential they have for improving results for patients.
