Despite a number of effective treatment options, diabetic eye disease is a leading cause of vision loss in the United States, in part because many patients are not treated. In addition to counseling patients about the importance of glucose control in maintaining vision, clinicians should emphasize the need for vision screening among patients with diabetes. Early detection offers the best long-term visual outcomes, especially with new treatment options emerging. In this activity, leading ophthalmologists will discuss methods that clinicians can use to monitor patients with diabetes and will review the latest data concerning treatment options for patients with diabetic eye disease.
