The importance of classifying the natural progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is critical for recognition of stages of disease that require treatment. The diabetic retinopathy severity score (DRSS) correlates with the development of macular edema, the development of proliferative complications as well as visual acuity and other measures of visual function such as contrast sensitivity. This CME activity will assess the clinical importance of changes seen in the DRSS.
