The Argus II retinal prosthesis has been shown to improve the capabilities of patients with retinitis pigmentosa in tasks that require broader vision, such as locating doors and windows, sorting light and dark clothes, avoiding obstacles and staying within a crosswalk, which help patients feel more “visual” and more socially connected, but have not been shown to restore fine vision for detailed tasks.
