The management of neovascular retinal disease has been revolutionized by the integration of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy into treatment regimens. Pinnacle studies have demonstrated significant visual acuity gains in patients receiving optimal therapy, yet these outcomes are not always reflected in the real world. Lack of patient compliance due to treatment burden and associated undertreatment of patients have demonstrated the need for alternative, more durable therapy options that address these challenges. Within this CME activity, experts in the field review emerging approaches that allow for sustained delivery of therapy and evaluate emerging advances that target novel molecular pathways that have the potential to enhance visual acuity outcomes in patients with neovascular retinal disease.
