The primary endpoint in a clinical trial is the outcome measure that is specifically analyzed to determine if there is a difference between intervention and control groups. Importantly, sample size is determined based on the estimated size of the effect of the intervention on the primary endpoint. Secondary endpoints are other endpoints that are looked at in a clinical trial and may contribute to hypotheses for further testing, as well as provide supportive evidence for the primary hypothesis.
