As more biosimilars are approved for use in the United States, all members of the multidisciplinary care team will require education about the appropriate incorporation of biosimilars into treatment paradigms. Currently, many providers lack knowledge about how biosimilars differ from their reference product as well as the regulatory processes by which biosimilars are approved. In this activity, expert faculty will summarize the current regulations for the manufacture and interchangeability of a biosimilar with its reference product as well as discuss how physicians and pharmacists can collaborate in making institutional formulary decisions about biosimilars. Participants will gain an understanding of the potential impact of biosimilars on health care outcomes across several clinical specialties as well as the barriers that impede the use of biosimilars and strategies to overcome these challenges.
