Target Audience: The intended audience for the activity is rheumatologists, primary care physicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with AS.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity participants should be able to:
- Examine validated classification criteria for the assessment and differential diagnosis of AS/Ax-SPA and apply these tools in a patient with chronic back ache of longer than 3 months duration.
- Define the role of anti-TNF agents in AS/Ax-SPA treatment, the potential value of early initiation of treatment, and importance of pre-treatment screening to minimize the risks of adverse events.
- Utilize strategies to identify patients appropriate for early referral to rheumatologists when symptoms suggestive of AS/Ax-SPA are present and recognize the need for referral and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of specialists to manage extra-articular manifestations of AS/Ax-SPA.
- Summarize recent therapeutic advances for ankylosing spondylitis and their potential implications for clinical practice.
